The Mathematics of Eight Days and a Slamming Car Door

The scent will arrive three minutes before the car turns into the drive and I vibrate at frequencies that concern even me.

She has been gone eight days. Eight entire rotations of the earth. I calculated this while staring at the wall yesterday and the mathematics were devastating. Gus has been handling her absence with his usual composure, which is to say he found the guest bedroom and claimed the entire bed.

But I have been managing the household. The morning cookie distribution. The breakfast oversight. The squirrel perimeter checks. The sun patch rotations. Someone had to maintain order.

The car door will slam twice tonight and I will no longer be entirely in control of my legs.
